Medicare Part B and D open enrollment counseling assistance available through Macomb Community Action
The Macomb Community Action Office of Senior Services is offering counseling appointments for Macomb County seniors that need assistance with their Medicare Part B and D enrollment. Medicare open enrollment for 2019 began on Monday, October 15 and runs through Thursday, December 7.
Macomb County's trained resource specialists will be available to help seniors navigate the different options being offered and can also help them register for a plan of their choice that best fits their needs. Appointments will be available from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., Monday through Friday, beginning October 16. Available dates and times will vary based on site locations. Participants should bring their Medicare card and a list of their medications, including dosage and frequency, to their appointment. Appointments will be held in four locations:
Macomb County Family Resource Center
196 N. Rose Street
Recreation Authority of Roseville & Eastpointe
18185 Sycamore Street
New Haven Schools-Administration Building
30375 Clark Street (Door 19)
Max Thompson Family Resource Center
11370 Hupp Avenue
"Last year, Macomb Community Action assisted 676 older adults with their Medicare open enrollment and saved them over $325,000," said Ernest Cawvey, director of Macomb Community Action. "These types of cost savings are very impactful and often vital for seniors who have limited incomes."
In 2017, there were 127 Medicare plans and 23 Medicare prescription drug plans available in Michigan, giving participants several options to select from. Seniors should remember that even if an individual has been enrolled in a Medicare Part B and D plan previously, that plan may not remain the most cost effective choice due to changes made in premiums, prescription copays and deductibles every year. In addition, some plans may have been eliminated and new plans may appear.
Macomb County seniors who are 60 years and older are eligible for this free program. To schedule an appointment, contact Macomb Community Action Office of Senior Services at (586) 469-5228.
